The Proton Foundation and Hurt Ltd are seeking to develop and connect a network of partners from third sector organisations across Europe who are currently engaged in social enterprise or wishing to develop social enterprise services in their local community.

Goals and Objectives

The Proton Foundation and Hurt Ltd are seeking to develop and connect a network of partners from third sector organisations across Europe who are currently engaged in social enterprise or wishing to develop social enterprise services in their local community. Thus delivering social enterprise development training to partnering organisations through the means of training conferences, exchange visits and mentoring.

Centred around a learning academy which will cover topics such as management, leadership, value based cultures, capacity building and sustainability, human resources, finances and budgeting and strategic planning. Alongside this training, exchange visits between projects will take place to re-enforce theory with practice. Each partner project will have the opportunity to host a training exchange visit, thus giving them an ideal opportunity to be exposed to International event management, problem-solving and cross-cultural hospitality.

Funding Setback

The Community Impact Academy (CIA) is seeking to set up a partnership made up of 13 members from 8 different countries, which includes two partners from the UK , Romania, Slovakia, Czech Republic and Poland and one partner from Austria, Bulgaria and Estonia. The partnership aims to cooperate on the development of social enterprises. There will be eight meetings based around a management training programme and the evaluation of the partner social enterprise or plans for a social enterprise in the case where one is not yet established. Each partner will be involved in 14 staff mobilities.

The CIA team recently applied for funding with the EU Leonardo Partnership Program. The Leonardo da Vinci programme is part of the European Commission’s new Lifelong Learning Programme and aims to build a skilled workforce across Europe. It seeks to enable organisations across Europe to network and work together in small scale co-operation.

Whilst a good bid was submitted it was felt that for such a large scale project, a stronger framework was required to enable and support partners to fully benefit from and implement the outcomes of the programme. The assessors were positive in that the objectives of the project are relevant to the Leonardo programme which aims at the interchange of practice and training between partner organisations in partner countries within the European Union. However at this stage our planning has leant too heavily upon the UK partners and the Leonardo programme would require a greater equilibrium between European partners and UK partners. The assessors were positive about the potential impact in that the project certainly has some potential for impact on the participating organisations and the communities in which they operate.

So although disappointed that our bid was unsuccessful, we are considering other options at this time for the way forward.
