Workshop for Young Leaders - Macedonia August 2011
Jim Dunn is invited to meet the President of Macedonia whilst delivering a second year of leadership training on behalf of the Foundation, to 38 young emerging key national leaders.
The temperature was 38c degrees. A luxury hotel by a lake on the outskirts of the beautiful resort of Ohrid, Macedonia was once again the setting for the August 2011 Leadership Training Workshop attended by 38 high level potential national leaders. Participants were aged between 23 and 30 years old, all well qualified academically, many having a second degree and some already in key positions in their chosen field of work.

These workshops are the personal initaitive of the Macedonian President, Dr Gjorge Ivanov. The first being held back in August 2010. The plan is to run one each year until 2014. The initiative is of strategic importance to the Government who are aiming to cultivate the next generation of leaders in postive ways, which is something that the President promised during his election campaign.
Jim Dunn, the Proton Foundation's International Director for Education, Training and Development lectured last year on a range of topics including strategic management and project management and was invited by the Cabinet Office of the Macedonian Government to do the same again this year.

This year Jim lectured on the topic of 'Leadership & Culture - the relationship to each and the subsequent impact on performance'. On his return from this year's workshop Jim told us: "Working with this year's group was invigorating. They are energetic, enthusiastic and keen to make a difference. The combination of 'able', 'willing' and 'allowed' is always powerful and here are a new generation of young leaders who are able and willing and, as Macedonia leaves mono-politics behind, are sensing increasingly that they are also allowed.

I met a number of the young leaders who had attended last year's programme and they are still very enthused and 'fired up' by some of the materials we were able to share at that time. This year I was invited to meet the President and First Lady at an event held in his summer residence. I had a conversation with him and told him about our work. We are hoping to be invited back to continue to deliver training throughout the remainder of the programme, which clearly outworks the Foundation's goals of 'promoting positive cultures in governments, business, education, communites and families'. |
