NEW Franchise Initiative for Europe

Proton announces a new franchise initiative for Europe. Creating employment and wealth through franchising.

What is a franchise?

A franchise is an agreement or license between two parties which gives a person or group of people (the franchisee) the rights to market a product or service using the trademark of another business (the franchisor). Put simply, a franchise is a business in any sector that individuals or companies can buy into that has a proven replicable business formula.

Starbucks, MacDonalds, KFC, Pizza Hut, Holiday Inn; these are just some well known companies providing franchise opportunities around the globe. However there are hundreds of others that are not yet familiar to us in eastern and central Europe that could create a great business opportunity with an ethical base and moral responsibility, whilst at the same time generating profit for the good of the communities where the companies are based.

What are the benefits of owning a franchise?

The great thing about franchising is that it gives the right to operate a proven business system in a defined territory for an agreed period in return for payment for initial and ongoing fees, providing an excellent income for the business owner and the opportunity to train and employ a whole raft of people in different aspects of business enterprise.

Franchises can vary in size from single operator ‘job’ franchises (for example a van based pet food delivery business) to businesses employing 20 or more staff (for example an office cleaning service). Although virtually any business can be franchised, franchising seems to work best for businesses supplying services of distributing products (either using retail premises, or mobile ‘showrooms’).

Working in partnership with Iain Martin, Managing Director of Kyros Franchising Limitied, a UK based company providing recruitment services for the franchise industry, the Proton Foundation is seeking to explore franchise opportunities in Europe, initially in Bulgaria and Romania, with a view to seeing businesses established that will see sustainable transformation in local communities.

Iain Martin explains, “Our vision is to use the franchise model as a means of developing economic and spiritual growth in the developing world, starting in Bulgaria. Our first objective is to establish a franchise holding company in Bulgaria that would own the Master Franchise rights for a range of small to medium enterprise (SME) franchise concepts. Each Master Franchise concept would be run as a missional business.”

“This would bring many benefits to a local community, including the creation of employment, training and equipping for entrepreneurs, the creation of wealth and of course the establishment of Christian values in the marketplace.”

With this objective in mind during a trip to Romania in July, Ian Green spent some time in both Timisoara and Bucharest sharing the possibilities of creating a group of franchise operations through a master franchisee. After initial discussions with about 35 people, it was felt that it would be valuable to visit both Romania and Bulgaria early in 2010 to conduct franchise conferences with those wishing to consider the opportunities in greater detail.

There has been considerable interest in this initiative from a number of experienced Christian businessmen, including Miroslav Mitkov, who is likely to play a key role in its implementation.
