Community Project Helps Elderly

In the years since Romania has entered the European Union there has been incredible growth. With developments in technology and other industrial modernization incredible wealth has poured into its economy but as a nation enters development there is inevitably a great downside that is often overlooked…. and that is the gap between the rich and the poor disseminating.

For many the basics of shelter, food and clothing are unachievable at best. This situation is not limited to urbanized areas, the epidemic of poverty is far-reaching. Its full weight bears on the inhabitants of areas such as Constanta.

Heart to Heart is a community action project that seeks to help the Elderly in this city with their basic needs. However the effect of this project reaches beyond the practical and has impacted people’s emotional, relational and spiritual lives, it is holistic in its approach and effect. For this group, 2008 has been a year of great frustration, great challenges and great victories. Most days they were in need of a miracle, with the needs of the people reaching out to them whilst their bank balance was zero and they had no food in the fridge to cook with. But day after day, food and money was given by the projects supporters and at the end of the year they are thankful for all that has been achieved.
