Czech Social Concern
In December 2007, Ian Green, Neil Strake (Managing Director of The Pacific Institute [TPI] UK (See image)) and Jim Dunn (TPI Project Director) conducted a presentation in the city of Chomutov, in Northwest Czech Republic. Ian has visited the city many times before as a result of Church Planting efforts. However, there is an incredible hunger in the Chomutov church to see social entrepreneurship take place within the city. As it would impact the community in many levels including education, the arts, social services, local government and may help to ease some of the racial tension that exists as a result of the current Romany population.
We presented to the church leaders how we could assist long-term unemployed, single parents and a host of other social opportunities where hope could be bought as a result of the information and individual personal empowerment. We also met with the chairman of the education committee who oversees the ten schools operating in this district. He was very interested in how we could bring a positive mindset, greater self esteem and personal motivation to the students. After the presentation and dialogue we left knowing that there was much work to be done and we would explore opportunities of how to move this forward.
Martin Hunat a senior church leader in the city would be the coordinator for future events and we look forward to continuing the good relationship that we currently have with this town and city.
