Expect the Unexpected
Debbie Funk & Nancy Cucheran have been Christian workers in Romania for a number of years. Just four years ago they launched an interesting ministry project within an arms-reach of Bucharests largest university. The idea was to create a third place environment that would be welcoming, non-stereotypical and would be a home away from home for the multitude of university students in the area and so La Cafenescu was launched in 2003.
La Cafenescu provides internet access for students, high-quality coffee, peaceful surrounds and ambience and powerful Christian influence through their value-driven staff. The desire was not to have a hangout for Christians but to build a bridge for those who were seeking authentic faith. It was to be a place that could open dialogue and conversation to discover an all new meaning to life as a result of a life transforming relationship with Jesus Christ. The model has been incredibly successful.
Ian & Judith Green were there at the conclusion of four years of operational ministry as Debbie & Nancy are now in the process of transferring the concept to other cities across Romania. It was an incredibly powerful time as they listened to the staff share their story of how the influence and leadership of Debbie and Nancy has had a pivotal impact on their life and their understanding of Jesus. This remarkable project is a fresh way to conduct a leadership paradigm in post modern Europe. Ian and Judith were able to give wisdom and clear guidelines for the way forward for this ministry in transition; and in the people who have invested so much life, energy and spirit which will now see seeds transported into hundreds of students lives across Romania.
Although no future plans are totally confirmed, we are sure the future is bright and the seeds sown will reap a great harvest.
